Best pattern for mig welding Buying guide
When choosing a pattern for MIG welding, consider the material you are welding, the type of weld you are creating and the desired end result.
For mild steel, a weave pattern works well as it allows you to quickly move the welding torch along the length of the weld while still providing a good penetration of the weld into the base material. For thicker materials, a zigzag pattern allows for more control and a stronger weld.
For fillet welds, a weave pattern is often used as it creates a stronger weld. A zigzag pattern is also popular for fillet welds, especially on thinner materials.
For lap welds, a weave pattern is usually used as it allows the welder to move more quickly while still providing a good penetration of the weld.
For butt welds, a weave pattern is most often used. This pattern allows for a good penetration of the weld into the base material but is also more time consuming. If speed is important, a zigzag pattern may be a better option.
When creating an aesthetic weld, a weave pattern is often used as its appearance is more pleasing than a zigzag pattern.
No matter which pattern is chosen, it is important to practice the pattern and become familiar with it before attempting to weld with it. This will help ensure a successful weld.
